The Abcellute Tissue Bank was established in 2009 in recognition of the increasing global need for reliable source of high quality human tissue and cells.

The Company

Abcellute Tissue Bank was established to meet the increasing demand for high quality human tissue for biomedical research. It has supply agreements with UK hospitals that provide a reliable source of many different tissue types commonly used in research. ATB arranges for the collection of material, its processing and storage until required.

ATB’s sister company Abcellute Limited provides tissue processing services to ATB. Abcellute Limited was originally founded in 2001 to commercialise the company’s unique SureTran™ cell transport technology, which permits the storage and transport of fresh primary liver cells or hepatocytes for up to 5 days, without freezing, with no loss of biological function or principle biomarkers. For more information, please visit the Abcellute Limited website.

Scientific Review Board

In addition to the Management Team, ATB has established an independent Scientific Review Board (SRB). The SRB is responsible for overseeing and providing guidance on the ethical aspects of the business. Every application to use human tissue is reviewed by the SRB to ensure that it complies with the necessary ethical requirements set by the NHS Research Ethics Committee, who granted a favourable opinion to the ATB to operate as a Research Tissue Bank. The SRB comprises members of the lay public and scientists in Academia with vast experience in reviewing applications to use human tissue in biomedical research. ATB is based in the UK at the BioPark in Welwyn garden City, Hertfordshire.
